WASHINGTON—The Center for Data Innovation today welcomed the introduction of the Artificial intelligence (AI) in Government Act by Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Rob Portman (R-OH), and Kamala Harris (D-CA). The Center issued the following statement from Director Daniel Castro:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to disrupt many industries, from health care to education, by automating processes and improving decision-making. Government, in particular, stands to benefit from AI, but it unfortunately lags in the adoption of many new technologies. This bill would serve as an important catalyst for government use of AI and provide a foundation for sharing best practices across all levels of government. Moreover, this bill would allow federal agencies to map out a strategic path forward with this emerging technology and track the successful adoption of AI in government over time.
