Developing Computer Vision to Detect Natural Disasters

Defense Innovation Unit Experimentala U.S. Department of Defense organization that helps commercial groups develop technologies useful to the militaryand the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency have launched the DIUx xView 2018 Detection Challenge to encourage participants to develop computer vision algorithms that can better detect objects in satellite imagery, particularly those that can detect natural disasters. Challenge participants are provided one of the largest publicly available datasets of satellite imagery, consisting of over 1 million delineated objects, such as houses and vehicles. Winning entries could receive up to $100,000.
