Exploring the World’s Conversations with Multi-Touch

Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis tapped Portland, Oregon-based data visualization firm Periscopic to build a multi-touch interactive visualization tool that finds and displays mentions of a given topic across different social media platforms and news sources in real time. Users can rapidly transition from viewing the global or national network of Facebook posts, retweets, and other mentions, to the text of individual posts themselves. The as-yet-unnamed visualization, which now exists as a 6 foot by 14 foot physical installation, will ultimately be the prototype for a desktop analysis tool and iPad app.
